Getting started Connect your WhatsApp number
Connect your WhatsApp number
Link your WhatsApp Business number to WAGenie once, so your team can send and receive messages here.
What it does
WAGenie talks to your customers through the official WhatsApp Business API from Meta. To start, you save three details from your Meta account in WAGenie: the Phone Number ID, the WhatsApp Business Account ID and a permanent access token.
Then you paste one web address from WAGenie into Meta. That lets Meta deliver your customers’ messages to your inbox.

How to use it
- Open Settings and choose WhatsApp. Only an Owner or an Admin can save changes on this screen.
- In Meta, create an app of the type Business and add the WhatsApp product. The Setup Instructions card on the same screen lists each click.
- In Meta, open WhatsApp, then API Setup. Copy your Phone Number ID and your WhatsApp Business Account ID. They are long numbers, not your phone number.
- In Meta, open Business Settings, then System Users, and generate a Permanent Access Token.
- Back in WAGenie, fill in the three details. Also make up a Webhook Verify Token. It can be any text you choose.
- Press Test API Connection. You should see that the API connection was successful. Then press Save Configuration.
- Copy the Webhook Callback URL shown on the same screen. In Meta, open WhatsApp, then Configuration, and press Edit on the Webhook section. Paste the address, enter the same verify token, and subscribe to the messages field.
- Back in WAGenie, look at Registration status. When it says Registered, Meta will deliver events to WAGenie and you are done. Press Verify with Meta if messages ever stop arriving.
Example for a business
The owner of a coaching class opens Meta and copies the Phone Number ID and the Business Account ID. They paste both into Settings, WhatsApp, add the access token, and press Save Configuration. After they paste the web address into Meta, the Registration status says Registered. The next parent who writes to the class number appears in the Inbox.
Good to know
- The two step verification PIN is optional. Add the 6 digit PIN from Meta WhatsApp Manager when you connect a real number. Meta’s test numbers have no PIN, so leave it blank for them.
- The access token is hidden after you save it. To change anything on the screen, enter the token again.
- Reset Configuration clears the saved details so you can enter them again.
- Each account connects one WhatsApp number.
- Never share your access token in a chat or an email.
