Send one approved message to many customers at once, and see who got it, read it and replied.

What it does

A broadcast sends an approved message template to a group of contacts. You choose the template, the people, and what goes into each blank, then send.

After sending, the broadcast page shows a funnel: how many were sent, delivered, read and replied, and how many failed. You can see each person and export the list as a CSV.

How to use it

  1. Open Broadcasts and press New Broadcast.
  2. Step 1, Template: choose an approved template. If the list is empty, create one in Settings, Templates first.
  3. Step 2, Audience: choose All contacts, Filter by tags, Custom field, Upload CSV or Saved list. Tags can also be excluded.
  4. For a CSV, use a column named phone with the plus sign and country code, and an optional column named name. The screen has a sample file and a short guide.
  5. Step 3, Personalize: for each blank in the template, choose a fixed value, a contact field or a custom field. If the template has a header image, add its link. A preview shows the result.
  6. Step 4, Send: give the broadcast a name and check the summary and the estimated reach. Press Send Broadcast and confirm. Or press Save as Draft to finish later.
  7. Open the broadcast from the list to follow the results. If some people failed or the sending stopped part way, press Retry failed or Resume sending.

Example for a business

A sweet shop

Before Diwali, a sweet shop sends an approved template with a picture of the gift boxes to everyone tagged Customer. Each message starts with the person’s first name. The owner opens the broadcast the next day, sees who read it, and replies to the people who asked for prices.

Good to know

  • Only approved templates can be used.
  • Every blank in the template must be filled in. Otherwise it would reach Meta empty.
  • Meta limits how many people you can start a chat with in 24 hours, based on your messaging tier. The Number health page shows your limit.
  • People who typed STOP, UNSUBSCRIBE or QUIT are left out of a saved list.
  • You cannot delete a broadcast while it is sending.
